The tennis club has a growing community that needs an efficient way for members to book courts and lessons with teachers because the current first-come, first-served system is no longer manageable. New members need an easy sign-up process to join the club seamlessly. The club also wants to attract more members by showcasing its tennis expertise through exercise videos and training schedules. Including ongoing club news and worldwide tennis news would further engage members and keep them informed.
After conducting interviews with members of the tennis club, it became clear that the lack of a booking system is a significant source of frustration, especially with the influx of new members. Many members arrive after work only to find that the courts are already occupied.
Additionally, the sense of community within the tennis club is almost nonexistent due to the absence of a platform for connecting with other players. This lack of connectivity has also hindered the organization of member days, as the club's limited number of courts cannot accommodate everyone. Therefore, an alternative method is needed to facilitate member connections and court bookings for joint play.
“Thomas is a recreational player who wants to reserve a court players so that he is ensured of a court when he wants to play"
"Lisa is a beginner tennis player who wants to find other tennis players at her level so that she has a matching opponent to play with."
As it became evident that both the users and the club needed a robust system for signing up new members and, more importantly, for enabling these members to easily book courts and connect with others, I initiated the design process by creating detailed user flows. These user flows were designed to guide users step-by-step through the booking process, ensuring even those unfamiliar with the system could navigate it effortlessly. By presenting each segment on a separate page, I aimed to eliminate confusion and provide a clear, straightforward experience.
During the wireframe stage, I translated my vision of the user flow into a functional prototype. This process revealed the need for additional interactions and animations to indicate users' progress and facilitate easy navigation backward. Initially, I overlooked these aspects in the first round of prototyping. Although swiping from left to right effectively allowed users to navigate back through the steps, it wasn't sufficient to clearly guide them on how to return to the main menu. Incorporating these refinements proved essential for enhancing the overall user experience and ensuring a smooth, intuitive process.
On the website, the process was more straightforward as the entire sequence could be displayed step-by-step on a single screen. This setup allowed users to easily modify any information from the first step without having to navigate away from the current page.
For the club's style, I aimed to create a sporty, vibrant, and trustworthy atmosphere. With its long-standing history, it was time for the club to embrace a new era where technology enhances organization and efficiency.
As the project progressed and branding was integrated, the concept of having a design composed of several blocks, each representing its own feature, became more effective. This approach made the website feel more app-like, providing a clear overview of navigation and interaction.
The next phase of testing will determine if the design is as user-friendly as intended.
